The Star Wars Posts Episode IV Karma in the Cantina

Just as Luke Skywalker rested his arm against the bar at the Mos Isley Cantina, the walrus like Panda Baba brushed his flipper against Luke’s shoulder just to tell him he didn’t like Luke. Panda Baba’s taunts were translated and echoed by Dr Evazan, who bragged about having the death sentence on twelve systems. Luke assured Dr Evazan that he’d “be careful”. Luke was avoiding confrontation. This was not enough for Panda Baba and Dr Evazan. Obiwan intervened and even offered to clam their aggressions with a drink. Still, Panda Baba and Dr. Evazan pursued conflict. The result was Panda Baba’s arm lying on the floor below Obiwan’s glowing lightsaber.
Next we move to the tragedy of poor Greedo. Greedo was a bounty hunter under the temporary employment of Jabba the Hutt. It can be argued that he was simply doing his job when he was shot dead by Han Solo. This is not the case. Greedo first betrayed his employer by offering to accept the Millennium Falcon as payment for looking the other way in the face of Solo’s escape. Greedo also shows his darker side with his last words “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time Solo” “I’ll bet you have” retorts Solo as he blasts Greedo to death, dispensing karma in the Cantina.
In both cases we have dubious characters seeking conflict. In each case karma catches up to them quickly. Conversely, our heroes who are not seeking conflict leave the Cantina in peace. The lesson is clear. Seek not conflict. Find not disaster. Danger
